Hi, welcome to this course about the Minimum Equipment List, what we know as βMELβ. As the course name implies, the course focuses on how to customise an MEL. However, I will not jump straight to MEL customization. When drafting the syllabus for this course, my intention was to first help you develop a strong regulatory foundation. In fact Lessons 3 and 4 are dedicated to this step, where I start from ICAO Standards and Recommended Practices and build my way towards European regulation governed by EASA. I will also spend considerable time explaining the layout of an MMEL and why it is presented in a certain format. This will allow you to compile any MEL for any aircraft type, from basic principles.
It is only in lesson 5 that I will focus on the MEL customisation process. In lesson 5 we will be mainly consolidating our knowledge about the regulation, in a more practical way. We then conclude the core of the course in Lesson 6, where we will explore best practices on how to use the MEL effectively.
My name is Alan and Iβm a co-founder of the RAVEN Learning Experience Platform. I have worked with aircraft operators for almost 10 years, within their CAMO Organisation. I decided to build this MEL customisation course because Iβve seen first hand that more often than not, aviation professionals like myself who end up working on MEL customisations,Β would lack a strong regulatory foundation. I expect that this regulatory foundation will greatly help you in your professional development.Β
So this course is ideal for aviation professionals who are directly involved in the MEL customisation process – either within an operator environment or also within an authority in the EASA region. But it could also serve well to other aviation professionals, who know how to use the MEL but maybe are not very comfortable with its regulatory requirements.
What are the learning objectives of this course? By the end of the course you are expected to:
- be knowledgeable about the regulation concerning MELs;
- understand the role of the Master Minimum Equipment List;
- learn the basic principles of MEL customisation;
- and, finally, you will learn the best practices for how to use the MEL
When you bought this course, you were automatically enrolled into a dedicated course social group. You can use this space to share relatable MEL experiences. But you can also leave comments or questions related to the course itself, to your peers or myself as your course mentor.
The following waypoints in this lesson are optional for those who are not yet familiar with the RAVEN platform. It will help you to understand how RAVEN works and how to make the best use of it, to maximise your learning experience.
