What the Course is About
This course is intended for professionals in the aviation industry who hold a leadership position with a special focus on pilots. It will create a clear understanding of emotional intelligence and the associated competencies applied to aviation.
Emotional intelligence consists of the ability to identify, understand, use, and manage emotions in oneself and others. It is widely considered a critical intelligence for people in positions of leadership especially in roles that involve high levels of decision making and problem solving.
This course delves into some essential emotional intelligence competencies such as emotional regulation in high pressure situations, assertiveness in conflict scenarios, and the ability to take another person’s perspective in negotiating for agreement.
Emotional intelligence, specifically the capacity for emotional regulation is considered crucial for effective teamwork which is essential in the aviation industry. Good working relationships based on trust and collaboration are fundamental to effective teamwork which is critical for smooth operations and ultimately for passenger safety.

- Participants will gain a thorough conceptual understanding of emotional intelligence and its application and relevance to the aviation industry.
- Participants will learn about the essential skills related to emotional intelligence and how these skills may be applied directly to various aviation scenarios.
- The course will provide participants with the opportunity to develop competencies in two fundamental areas of emotional intelligence – the intrapersonal dimension and the interpersonal dimension. Specifically, the course focuses on emotional self-awareness, emotional self-regulation, giving feedback with empathy and asserting one’s authority in a calm and professional manner.
